Portraiture Group

Portraiture Group: If faces are one of your favorite subjects, consider joining the Portrait Group. This group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. every Thursday afternoon (except the day of SRAL's general meeting) in the SRAL studio. The group now offers both long and short poses:

---For short poses, participants take turns as the model, each posing for 15 minutes. That's long enough to catch a likeness before the next person poses. Please plan to use pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, and other fume-free media.

---For long poses, participants will recruit friends, spouses, and other volunteers to pose, one model per session. The model repeats the same pose for 15-20 minute intervals over two hours, giving artists more time to develop a traditional portrait. Some sessions will be limited to fume-free media; others will be open to all media.

Here's the February schedule:

  • February 2, long pose, fume-free media only
  • February 9, no session (SRAL general meeting)
  • February 16, long pose, all media
  • February 23, short poses, fume-free media only

Each session requires at least four artists to sign up in advance. If you plan to attend a particular session, please contact Nikki Vick (399-1890 or nikkiv@srart.org) by the preceding Tuesday. Also, contact Nikki to suggest yourself or someone else to volunteer as a model.
